Flush them out with a hose and let the cats have them. My cat knows the chook house is an easy hunting ground which has helped here.
Mice beat rats, which is what we get. I try to ignore them until they start walking around in front of me in broad daylight. I hate to do it but I poison them, because the cats won't touch them.
